Charbroil M580 SS Quantum 4 Burner Infrared Gas Grill Review
The Charbroil M580 SS Quantum gas grill uses a combination of convective open flame heat and infrared technology for cooking your food, as with other Charbroil Grill models of its type the M580 does an especially good job of cooking red meat due to infrared.
The main cooking area for the grill consists of a stainless steel cooking grate, a stainless steel infrared emitter and a burner system, when you cook steaks on the grill infrared heat sears the outside of the meat and does a great job of locking in its flavor and juices.
The Charbroil M580 runs on liquid propane as standard however you can attach a natural gas conversion kit to the grill if you want to convert it, even though the grill runs on gas you can still use it to add smoky flavors to your food by dropping wood chips of your preference between the cooking grates, to infuse your food with as much flavor as possible from the wood chips it’s best to keep the lid closed while you’re cooking.
Although the M580 isn’t the largest grill in the Charbroil range it’s still more than sufficient for cooking a meal for the family or for entertaining friends, the main cooking area for the grill is 580 square inches so you can lay plenty of steaks or burgers all at once.
If you are feeding large numbers you can ensure everyone gets to eat at the same time as the grill has a 200 square inch warming rack, at maximum the M580’s main cooking area can produce up to 42,000 BTU’s and it has its own electronic ignition system.
The M580 has grate level temperature gauges above each of its burners and it has a digital display so you can determine how much fuel you have in your gas tank, the grill also has a 13,000 BTU side burner you can use for cooking numerous other dishes to accompany your grilled food.
If like many others you grill in both the summer and the winter you will appreciate the design of the firebox for the M580, the firebox for the grill has two halogen lights mounted on the inside that come in very handy if you’re cooking when it start to get dark.
All in all the M580 isn’t a bad grill especially when considering how easily it can be converted to run on different fuels and its overall price, you can also a griddle to the grill if you decide you want to make pancakes or you want bacon and eggs on your patio.
A rotisserie is also available for the grill as an optional accessory however most people choose the Charbroil M580 purely for its infrared technology and the way it cooks steaks and other red meat.
